Jamaican Virgins : Fact or Fiction?‏

So there was once a time when pulling the “V card” was considered cool. You were seen as a good person if you were a virgin and it was something to perhaps even brag about, especially if you’re a girl. It was so cool to be a virgin that girls would lie about it! They’d know they’re having sex and tell people “Not me, maw virgin.” Tough luck if you’re a guy, chances are you were thought to be gay. LOL! Siiiiigh. Jamaican darknesss!

Any ways, I started thinking about how different things are today. Are virgins extinct? Are they now fictional characters that we hear about in fairytales and in the bible? I’m starting to think so.

(Lol at The Bible. Are we even reading it anymore?)

It’s like everyone wants sex now. My friend recently lost his virginity and every other sentence he speaks is punctuated by “it epicly nice and tight and warm” BUH! #ShoutOut to you! It seems like having sex is now a badge of honour. The more va jay jay you’ve been in and the more dicky you’ve been on, that’s what makes you cool and apart of the “in crowd”.

Is our culture so “sexualized”? So saturated with sex? I can’t help but blame dancehall music. Correct me if I’m wrong, but do we have any dancehall lyrics which endorse virginity?

*crickets*

I know Mr. Adijah Palmer relished taking the virginity of some unsuspecting white liver having girl in one of his more popular songs. Ha.

Virginity is so unimportant nowadays that we see it being taken at high schools in bathrooms, on desktops and on staircases. Hell, virginity taking is such a lucrative business that we see school boys becoming camera men in furtherance of the cause. Anyone remember the comments of one particular youngster who had become camera man? “Yow dawg! Yuh nuh easy enuh! Mi seh fi f@%k wid boots!”

At  another point in the video he could be heard giving commentary and introducing the participants to the audience.

By the way, whatever happened to those tapes? I miss them. Come on high schoolers! Get back into the business! I’M KIDDING! LOL!

Seriously though, we need to be seeking to preserve our virginities. What about no sex before marriage? Abstinence mek sense? Whatever happened to those things? Where are the days of knee length skirts? Have virgins really become extinct? Gentlemen, are you pressured to pursue sex more vigorously? Ladies, do you take pleasure in retaining your virginity? Or is it a burden lately?

And to the few virgins who probably still exist, don’t you feel threatened? Pressured? Alienated? Or do you take pleasure in being a dying breed? Go you! #TeamVirgin! #TeamJergens!

I hope the Virgin Queen, Tonian, reads this. Lol! She should have some interesting thoughts on the subject.

Seriously though guys, are Jamaican virgins a fact or entirely a work of fiction?

  3. bah. not much has changed. you are just in the prime time for high sexual activity (i’m guessing your age). it just seems that way around you, and me. dip down a little lower into the high schools and its more or less the same. kids been boinking forever, and the good kids are mostly not doing it just as before. things have changed a little, but not as much as we like to think.

  4. It doesn’t matter either way to me. Whether a person wants to be a virgin or not. If your having sex, do it responsibly and don’t Over Do it! Also no one should be pressured or feel pressured into having sex. Virginity is overrated as well. They just put that whole sex before marriage thing in the bible to suppress mans natural nature. Just like most other things in it but in this case it’s our Sexual nature. Anyway, not gonna get too deep into this so bye!…… GOOD POST by the way

All hail the virgin queen!!!! LOL! Sex has always been a prominent topic in dancehall tho so I would’nt blame it or even link youth behaviour to it today…its more abt technology and our access to EVERYTHING now a days …anyhoo its good to be a part of the dying breed. Never done it and im sure I wont for now…and still IM SURVING more like LIVING !!! P.S. I really am just arrogant to a fault as it regards to sex and very proud to be. blah.

Hmhmhmhm good article…. I agree that it’s a social ting. Jamaican girls naaah nuh morals these days and majority a dem get influenced easily. I strongly believe in preservin yourself for the right person. N the sad thing is that most a dem naah have sex fi the rite reasons n them always a brag like its a good thing. Sex is just overrated and u can blame it on the entertainment industry. They should ban certain music from playing on the radio altho dat naaah go really change anything but maybe if dem cut down on endorsin the slack music it mite help. I don’t knw…. Such a misfortune when a society is uneducated.

There are a few songs… Konshens & Tarrus, Queen Ifrica, Etana i think… they exist but neith here nor there. Gospel is always there as an alternative rofl.

We’re still around…… but #imWilling if anyone else is. No S&M or Bad Romance tho
